do not understand Lane Bryant

I was in a Lane Bryant store near me (I have a charge card in my name ....) to get some items for my GF and a guy is working the counter.

Last night, I go to pay the bill... and the lady behind the counter must be a size 2.

Huh?

Makes you wonder doesn't it? While yes a man can be helpful in pikcing out clothes to a certain extent so I don't want to hate on a man working there but come on! Do you really think most plus sized gals are going to want help from Ms size 2? I want a sales person who wears the clothes, who I can see they can put together an outfit and give me honest feedback about how things fit. No offense to women of all sizes but size 2 girl is not going to be able to tell me much from personal experience!

Part of the reason why I tend to shop more at Torrid is they almost always have sales people woh actually WEAR their clothes and therfore can give you some great ideas!

Alright y'all. let's be careful here. she shouldnt be discriminated against because she wears a smaller size. We big girls fight this fight all the time. and jsut because she cant fit the clothes doesnt mean she may not have an excellent sense of fashion for larger bodies. No one dresses me better than my friend Maurice, and he certainly doesnt wear women's clothes at all (tis a pity LOL!!).
Perhaps she was actually qualified for fashion retail. perhaps, she had the WLS and still feel more comfy in fat space. perhaps she's the only one that can work that shift that day. I obviously dont know, wasnt there. : ) Im just really down for women coming together and not moving apart.

    Peace

Alan, you ROCK for shopping for your boo!! There is something really sweet and wonderful about having a partner that can just shop for you. Kudos!!

I wasn't meaning anything bad by actually wanting someone who wears the clothes to help me with my questions....I mean when you go look at cars you wouldn't buy a car from someone who didn't drive would you? Same goes for trying to get product info for something like Spanx from someone who has never used them....

I do understand the need to not discriminate but we have had similiar issues here and I have actually walked out of a LB store after having a sales clerk get really snotty when I asked some pretty basic questions....I am sorry but even if they can not answer the questions from expereicne they should be able to talk about the products. The particular sales person I am talking about kept falling back on the fact that she couldn't wear the line of clothing to cover for the fact she knew nothing about the clothes!

So yes perhaps this sales person was qualified, or perhaps not...

Ok now. . . I have a very tall thin friend who has the best fashion sense I've ever seen and who also has the talent of being able to pick hella sexy clothes for bigger girls (me and a couple of her other friends) and for making all women she is around feel beautiful no matter their size. If she were behind the counter at LB (she wouldn't be because she hates that the clothes are not sexy enough for how she thinks BBWs should be able to dress) I would hope and pray that she would not be judged harshly because whoever was doing the judging would be missing out on some wonderful advice and encouragement. That girl has pulled me out of the "I'm only wearing baggy sweats" pity pot more times than I can count!

That said, as far as April's statement goes, anyone who doesn't know a thing about what they're selling shouldn't have that job. Period. Falling back on "but I don't wear this stuff" is totally insulting, as well. But one's size does not indicate what a person knows about what they're selling. If I had the money to purchase some of the things my skinny minnie friend picks out (yeah, she's got expensive taste) I'd let her dress me in a heartbeat and I'd come out looking damned hot!

Guess what I'm saying here is that I'd hate to see someone with a beautiful caring soul like hers get judged by her size when her intentions are always to make everyone feel gorgeous and sexy.
